Zázrivá, Orava - autumn 2022
In the autumn of 2022, we decided to take a weekend trip to Orava. It’s a northern region of Slovakia surrounded by beautiful mountains and valleys of Malá Fatra national park. We stayed in the village of Zázrivá, specifically in the Salaš - koliba Syrex. They produce cheese products typical of the region.
As soon as we arrived we went for a short walk and climbed the hill on the other side of the chalet. We were lucky enough to see a beautiful sunset the first evening and 2 shepherds admiring it as well.
There is also an animal farm where you can see sheep, cows, horses and even cats roaming around.
The morning sunrise in Zázrivá is as magical as the sunset. We could see the following scenes as the fog lifted.
The region has a lot to offer, so here are some other places we managed to visit:
- Château Gbeľany - If you fancy more comfort, go to the spa and enjoy a delicious dinner afterwards
- Orava castle - Many scenes from the famous vampire horror film Nosferatu (1922) were filmed at Orava Castle and we visited just on the 100th anniversary.
- Vychylovka - Skanzen - It’s a nice place (some photos below), but I’d recommend the Orava Village Museum instead.
I’ve got a lot of photos in the archive that I haven’t published anywhere yet, so I’d be happy to share more with you!
